Description
This module provides plug and play connection of bullbar park lights, indicators and DRL’s on Toyota N90 Hilux, 250 series Prado and 300 series Landcruiser, as well as high beam and fog light relay trigger outputs for your driving lights or light bar – all without cutting, modifying or running wires through the firewall.
CANBox is a CAN bus interface. A plug and play wiring harness connects at the adaptive cruise radar sensor in the grill, where the module reads lighting information broadcast on the vehicles CAN bus network, and switches the bullbar lighting to match. It doesn’t modify any of the factory CAN data, or send/transmit any additional data – it is a completely passive listen-only device, so the vehicle does not even know it is connected. The module is powered directly from the battery connection, preventing any extra current draw on factory circuits. CANBox switches itself off automatically with the vehicle to prevent battery drain.
- Plug + Play 5 minute fitment
- No cutting, splicing or soldering wires
- No routing wires through the firewall
Bullbar Light Outputs
Fully protected Park, DRL and LH/RH Indicator outputs power the lights in your bullbar directly. Each output has independent current monitoring with overload / short circuit protection. If a fault occurs, the output shuts down and retries automatically, preventing damage to the CANBox module or wiring.
The included harness is pre-terminated to plug directly into Ironman 4×4 bullbar lights using popular and readily available AMP Superseal 1.5 connectors. For other bars, it can be re-terminated to match the lights supplied with your bullbar, or an adaptor loom can be made to suit.
Relay Trigger Outputs
Three relay trigger outputs on separate connectors provide direct connection to most aftermarket driving light / light bar wiring looms (using the common 2 pin female 250 series quick connect termination). These are used to trigger a relay (usually via a switch fitted to the dash) which powers your driving lights or additional lighting.
- High Beam – on with the vehicles high beams.
- Manual High Beam – on only with stalk pushed forward (manual high beam, useful for vehicles with AHS, see below).
- Fog Light – on with the factory fog lights.
AHB and AHS
AHB and AHS are two distinct automatic lighting systems used by Toyota, both using a windscreen mounted camera.
- AHB (Automatic High Beam) uses a conventional high and low beam light, with the high beam switched on automatically when AHB is enabled and no oncoming traffic is detected. This is used in all current N90 Hilux, and lower range Landcruiser 300 and Prado 250 vehicles.
- AHS (Adaptive Highbeam System) is used in higher range Landcruiser 300 and Prado 250. Instead of a traditional high beam, the headlights contain an array on independent LEDs. The vehicle selectively dims or turns off some of these LEDs to shape the light beam, preventing blinding of oncoming traffic while keeping other areas of the road and gaps between vehicles fully lit.
On vehicles with AHS, it is important to use an interface like CANBox that can prevent your driving lights staying on when AHS is actively shaping the beam of your factory lights, otherwise your driving lights / light bar will continue to blind oncoming traffic.
The manual high beam relay trigger solves this problem. Push your stalk forward to manual high beam and your driving lights and full factory lighting come on. Pull the stalk backwards with traffic around, and AHS takes over again, lighting as much of the road as safely possible using the beam shaping of the factory AHS system.
